From left to right we have philanthropist and millionaire Henry P. Field, US President Calvin Coolidge and the original owner of 222 Elm St., John C. Hammond at an Amherst College reunion. Mr. Hammond worked as an attorney alongside his clerk, former US President Calvin Coolidge, out of 222 Elm St. He is responsible for the majority of the real estate development of Northampton and other Western Massachusetts communities of his time. Roswell Field Putnam
Roswell Field Putnam (1840–1911) was the foremost residential architect in Amherst and Northampton, Massachusetts, in the last two decades of the 19th century. He designed more than 35 sizable houses in those two towns and several in nearby communities. Later in life, he founded and ran the architecture department at Smith College.
